If you want to paddle on many waterways you often need a ‘licence’ to do so and the fee collected contributes to its upkeep and maintenance.
The navigation authority for the Suffolk & Essex River Stour is the Environment Agency (EA) and their fees apply to a variety of craft whether unpowered or powered, private or business use.

- ‘On the Water’ membership covers the specified person in an unpowered craft for over 4500 km of waterways, with passengers in the same craft also covered. Membership benefits include public liability insurance, offers and rewards with a year of membership from the date of joining.

- Register the specific craft (powered or unpowered / private or business craft) for use on all EA Waterways. Each craft needs to be registered for the chosen period within the season. Annual registrations expire at the end of the season on 31st March each year.
