The Granary is a red brick Georgian building that was built in 1807 for the River Stour Navigation Company. This attractive, Grade II listed building was restored by the River Stour Trust in 1989 and is our registered office. It is home to our Sudbury boat operations and riverside Tea Room.

The Granary is situated in peaceful surroundings by the River Stour yet within easy walking distance of the town centre. There is free car parking adjacent to The Granary whilst additional car parking and public transport links are only a short walk away. It can be privately hired for a variety of functions including meetings, seminars, classes, parties, naming ceremonies and weddings.

Craft storage and floating moorings are offered on an annual basis. Please click here for further information.

Opening hours: Accompanied viewings by appointment only. Tea Room is open from Spring until the end of October on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays, 11am-5pm. Viewings to discuss potential bookings are available year round by appointment only.

TEA ROOM
Open from Spring until the end of October on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays (11am until 5pm). We are also open on other advertised days for special events and the school summer holidays.

Our riverside Tea Room at The Granary is run by volunteers and supports the Sudbury boat trips operations with proceeds going towards the restoration and conservation of the River Stour Navigation. A visit to our tea room is the perfect accompaniment to a river trip!

On a nice day we recommend making the most of our riverside location by sitting out on the decking area. It overlooks the Granary Cut, Mayor’s Walk and the woodland, Eden-Rose Coppice, as well as being perfectly situated to watch any boating activity.

Tea Room menu includes:

  • Fairtrade hot drinks (filter coffee and selection of teas)
  • A simple selection of cold drinks
  • Delicious homemade cakes
  • Light lunch items (basic sandwiches and toasties)
  • ‘Special of the Day’ – chosen by the volunteers on duty that day

Lunch items are freshly prepared to order with ingredients locally sourced whenever possible. You can buy products with the Fairtrade Mark here. Fairtrade provides a better deal for producers in developing countries, creating opportunities for farmers and workers to improve their lives, their communities and to protect their environment.
