The Constable Trail

The River Stour Trust is considering fresh ideas for its services from Flatford after being given permission to operate a second boat starting from Easter.

We are planning to produce a guide to the Constable Trail. At present there are at least 12 of Constable’s best-known paintings on the stretch from Flatford to Stratford St Mary and people can travel by foot, by car, by trip-boat or by canoe to visit all of the locations.

Vice president Emrhys Barrell explains “We are aiming to increase our boat trips at Flatford with the addition of a second boat but it is very much dependent on volunteers. Traditionally, with one boat we have offered only round trips from Flatford to Fen Bridge but a second boat lends itself to ideas including bird watching trips and a water bus service from Flatford to Dedham.”
