The digger (on loan from Whitnell Plant Hire) arrived on site and was transported to the lock island on a Versadock raft that has been kindly loaned to the Trust by Electromobile Ltd. The digger means we can start work on the channel and the Versadock raft will be used to ferry materials and people to and from the island. Tony from Whitnell Plant Hire offered to drive the machine onto the raft as it would be a similar manoeuvre to loading a machine onto a trailer. Once the digger was on the raft, it was pulled across the channel (stopping for some publicity photo's!) before being driven off the raft and up onto the bank of the lock island. This proved a bit more of a challenge as the water levels in the upper stretch of river had continued to drop overnight.
