Stratford St Mary Lock Working Parties - Spring 2007

Reports by Jeff Burroughs

20 January 2007

The first working party of 2007 had a later start than usual due to the high river level that was flowing too fast to cross safely.

The team of volunteers assembled in the site caravan for tea and discussion on how best to proceed. Fortunately during this time the river level started to drop and it was agreed that work could safely commence.

The newly purchased Tirfor winch was put to good use pulling some of the tree stumps out of the ground and moving some of the other larger pieces of tree that had been felled at earlier working parties.

17 February & 17 March 2007

Trees were the main focus for these working parties - whether it was the removal of any branches that had fallen into the lock channel or cutting back branches before the end of March so as to avoid the bird nesting season. Volunteers continued to clear vegetation on the spillway in preparation for tasks at future working parties.

Further tree clearance took place

and good progress is being made

We look forward to pushing this project forward in the coming months.

We would like to see more willing volunteers and welcome any assistance.
